Red & gold

Red with gold zari is the traditional muhurtham pairing, and the combination that reads correctly in temple light.

Why this one lasts

It is what the ceremony has been photographed in for generations, and the light it was chosen for has not changed. Daylight and lamp light are kind to gold on red in a way hall lighting is not, which is why this pairing belongs on the ceremony blouse rather than the reception one.

Which red, and which gold

There are several reds and they behave differently. A blue-toned red goes cold against warm antique gold. A tomato red is difficult next to most jewellery. The one that works most often here is a deep red with a warm base, and it takes both bright and antique zari.

The gold has to be matched to the jewellery the bride will actually wear, not to the gold in the design photograph she liked. Bring a piece of it, or a clear photograph, before anything is agreed.

Weight

Red carries heavy work well. A fully covered red and gold bridal blouse is the heaviest thing made here and takes two to three weeks on the frame, longer in the middle of muhurtham season. Book the date first and settle the design afterwards.
