How long aari work takes, and when to book

The short version: two to three weeks for bridal work, less for lighter pieces, and the date you book matters more than the date you need it.

The longer version is worth reading if there is a wedding involved, because the mistake people make is almost always the same one and it is entirely avoidable.

Roughly how long each kind of work takes

• Full bridal work - front, back, sleeves, heavy zari and stone: two to three weeks, longer if the design is unusually dense.
• Reception or engagement blouse - medium weight: around a week to ten days.
• Neckline and sleeve work on a plain blouse: a few days.
• Saree border or pallu work: depends entirely on the length being covered; a pallu motif is quick, a full border is not.
• Stitching with work: add two or three days for the stitching itself and the fitting.

These are working times, not queue times, and that distinction is the whole article.

The queue is the real constraint

Only one blouse can be on a frame at a time. A piece that takes fifteen days of work and is fourth in the queue is not ready in fifteen days.

This is why the answer to "how long will it take" is never a single number without a conversation. It depends on what is already on the frame, and that changes weekly.

Muhurtham season

Wedding dates in this district cluster hard. Auspicious dates come in runs, and when they do, every hand in Kanyakumari is already working. The weeks either side of a season fill first, and they fill early.

What that means in practice:

1. Six weeks before the date is comfortable. The design can be discussed properly, changed if the first version does not sit right, and finished without anybody working nights.
2. Four weeks is workable for most designs, most of the time.
3. Two weeks in season usually means simplifying the design, or being told no.
4. Under ten days is not a bridal blouse. It is a lighter piece being called one.

What a rushed blouse actually costs

Hand work has no shortcut that is invisible. When a bridal blouse is compressed into a week, one of these happened:

• The design was thinned out, so it covers less than the photograph you showed.
• Stones were glued rather than set, because gluing is fast.
• The thread was worked looser, which is quicker and comes apart sooner.
• Somebody else did part of it, and the two halves do not quite match.
• It was machine embroidered and finished by hand at the edges.

None of these is visible on the day you collect it. Several are visible in the photographs afterwards, and all of them are visible a year later.

Booking a wedding properly

The sequence that works:

As soon as the date is fixed, message with the date. Not the design - just the date. That reserves a slot, and the design can be settled later. This single step removes most of the risk and costs nothing.

Four to six weeks out, settle the design and the material. Send photographs of both. This is when to change your mind, not later.

Then get measured, or send a blouse that fits you well. An old blouse that fits is more reliable than measurements taken at home, and it travels well if you are not near Nagercoil.

A week before, collect or arrange delivery. Leave a few days of margin. Not because anything is expected to go wrong, but because a wedding week is not when you want to discover that a hook needs moving.

If your date is close

Say so at the start rather than at the end. A short timeline is not automatically a problem - a lighter design, or work at the neckline and sleeves only, can be genuinely beautiful and can be done properly in the time available.

What does not work is agreeing to a heavy design and then discovering the calendar. Send the date first and the design second, and you will get an honest answer about what fits.
